The streets are going to be packed the whole race. Use that to your advantage but don’t get too excited in the beginning.

Make sure you’ve done a lot of under paced speed because it’s a flat, fast course.

The first part of the race it overwhelming with excitement as you will be running along thousands of other runners on the streets of Chicago Downtown. Not to say the least that the spectators will give you tones of adrenaline rush! Stay calm, stick with the plan, and enjoy the ride.

After half way of the race, there is a very lonely stretch where you will really need to stay focus on your pace and goal. Help yourself to stay focus by engaging with the other runners, and hydrate really well at this point. Hydration is really the key on finishing your race very strong.

When you reach China Town, don’t stop for the amazing soups and food! Keep focusing on the last part of the race! However, consider to go back after the race for a great replacement of the salt you lost during the marathon! That was always the best dinner treat I always gave myself after the race (and of course a big hamburger…cause why not!)
