ADRIANA NELSON

Marathon PR 2:28 - BLN PR 2:30.15 - @adi_nelson

We always hear “Stick with the plan”, but I always tell myself “Do the best you can possibly do that given day and stick with the plan when everything is perfect. We can’t control the weather or the competitors, but what we can control is ourselves. Run with your heart and mind. You know what you trained for and what your body is capable of doing.

BLN PRO TIP 1

If you travel to the race, make sure you stay well hydrated to avoid sickness right before the race. It happened to me right before Berlin marathon, and I wish I could have avoid the sickness.

BLN PRO TIP 2

Berlin Marathon is a very fast course with many fast runners. Because there is so much excitement , it is difficult to hold back and not push too hard from the beginning. Stick with your race plan and start focusing on your race right from the beginning. By doing that, you will have a spectacular and strong finish.

BLN PRO TIP 3

Find a group that is running your pace and stick with them as long as you can. By getting involved in helping each other in the group, you will be able to keep the drive and focus until the end. Don’t forget to hydrate! If you don’t hydrate well from the beginning, you will most likely pay the price later. Be smart.

PARKER STINSON

Marathon PR 2:14:29 - CHI PR 2:14:29 - @_parker_stinson_

Get a fueling plan that you like and works and then stick with it.

CHI PRO TIP 1

The streets are going to be packed with fans the whole race. Use that to your advantage but don’t get too excited in the beginning.

CHI PRO TIP 2

Make sure you’ve done a lot of under paced speed because it’s a flat, fast course.

CHI PRO TIP 3

Mentally be prepared to run straight for the last 2.5 miles.

TYLER MCCANDLESS

Marathon PR 2:12:28 - NYC PR 2:25:56 - @trackty

You never bank time in a marathon. Try to run a slight negative split or as close to even splits as possible. It can be hard to gauge your effort early in a big race with a lot of adrenaline, but those that stay patient early have a better second half of the race!

NYC PRO TIP 1

Wear shoes with enough support for the marathon. The road is mostly hard cement and I wore racing flats that were better suited for a 10K - my legs were trashed from the hard pavement.

NYC PRO TIP 2

The crowds are really great, especially in the second half. Use the energy from the crowds over the last 10 miles!

NYC PRO TIP 3

Hill training is key for running well in New York. There’s several bridges that are significant hills you need to be prepared for, as well as the infamous hills in Central Park.

ADRIANA APARECIDA DA SILVA

Marathon PR 2:29.17 - TYO PR 2:29.17 - @adrianamaratona

Train hard and race smart. My motto “Go hard, or go home!"

TYO PRO TIP 1

This race is one of the best races in Japan! Keep in mind that at the beginning of the race, you will be running downhill for a couple of kilometers. Make sure to put the break on and don’t go too fast!

TYO PRO TIP 2

The Japanese runners are so great on pacing. You will be able to run any pace you want in this race. Find the best group of runners, and enjoy the ride. Stick with them as much as you can.

TYO PRO TIP 3

Stay well hydrated during the race, and don’t forget to engorge yourself with yummy Japanese food! Sushi is my way to go!

JEFFREY EGGLESTON

Marathon PR 2:10:52 - BOS PR 2:11:57

Avoid leaving your race in training.

BOS PRO TIP 1

Train your legs to run efficiently downhill.

BOS PRO TIP 2

Get through the Newton Hills feeling good. How you come off of Heartbreak Hill can decide your race.

BOS PRO TIP 3

It’s Boston, so be prepared for anything, especially with the weather.

BECKY WADE

Marathon PR 2:30 - LDN PR 2:35 - @beckyswade

Break the race up into manageable chunks. 26.2 miles as a whole is an intimidating endeavor, but 2 10-milers + a 10K, or 4 10Ks + a 2K, or 26 individual miles (or whatever breakdown suits you best) is much easier to process and execute to plan.

LDN PRO TIP 1

Soak up the spirit and energy of the crowd. The spectators in London are unreal. Take advantage of them! Allow their encouragement to carry you down the course and savor the experience as much the distance allows.

LDN PRO TIP 2

Familiarize yourself with the course and its major landmarks in advance. The London Marathon weaves through so many epic parts of the city, and it pays to have a rough idea of where you’ll be at various points. Zone in until you hit one major landmark, then reset your immediate goal to the next landmark. So on until Buckingham Palace!

LDN PRO TIP 3

Extend your trip to do all of the touristy things you didn’t get to before the race. Revisit a few key landmarks that you only saw while zipping by. Hop on a double-decker or a riverboat for some more leisurely sightseeing. Find a local fish and chips hotspot. And however the race went, celebrate your effort with the people who shared in your journey!
