Jordan Hasay loves a challenge. From a young age, she's challenged herself to becoming one of the best American distance runners in the 1500m-10,000m. She belongs to the Nike Oregon Project, was one of the most decorated female athletes to ever compete for the University of Oregon, and has her sights set on a big year ahead. Like Chris Solinsky, Jordan has a hankering for shorter, more challenging repeats. Well, mile repeats are shorter for these distance athletes! She loves mile repeats because they are challenging and valuable for developing race pace. Read on more about her favorite workout and how she recovers—

What is your favorite motivational quote?

What is your favorite hard workout?
Mile repeats
What do you feel it benefits?
I feel like they really simulate the mental toughness required in a race as the last two laps can be very challenging. They are long enough that it gets hard but short enough that they can still be run quicker than race pace.
When do you like it? (Before, during, the last half, not until it's over, etc.)
All the time! I've become so used to enjoying the process and treat every workout like a race so I enjoy the preparation and the feelings of anticipation/excitement that come with any hard effort. During the workout I love the challenge and then of course afterwards the feeling of accomplishment!
Do you do best with other people running with you during the workout, or is it best done solo?
Normally I will have the help of a pacer which is nice because I can practice relaxing and not have to worry about splits.
Do you recommend other runners try it?
Definitely! It's a fun one and you can really surprise yourself with the effort.
What do you do for recovery after this workout and before your next?
As soon as the workout finishes in focused on recovery. Normally I'll have milk mixed with Bipro whey protein. Then I'll go through all my stretches and rolling using my R8 roll recovery! This really helps me get out any sore spots and I spend extra time on any areas that feel tight. It's really easy to use especially when I'm tired. I can just sit and roll out while watching a movie or tv show!
